The Bishop CISD counselors delivers a comprehensive school counseling program and is an integral part of the total educational program. School counselors work alongside teachers and parents to help students develop socially, emotionally, and to help remove any barriers they have to learning!

The program is organized and implemented by Professional School Counselors and supported by teachers, administrators, students and parents, and the community.

Resources are organized to meet the needs of all students through 4 delivery program components that follows the Texas Model for School Counseling Programs, 5th edition:

  • Guidance curriculum

  • Planning systems

  • Responsive services

Mrs. Chumbley provides:

  • Classroom lessons teaching social skills, how to take care of strong feelings, study skills, bully prevention, etc.

  • Small group counseling

  • Short-term individual counseling

  • Consultation with parents and teachers

  • Address concerns of teachers, parents, students

  • Community resource referrals (including longer term therapy services)

  • Schoolwide programs (Kindness Week, Career Week, etc.)

  • Special program coordination such as Section 504, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Gifted/Talented testing

How does a student see a school counselor?

  • Self-referral

  • Parent referral

  • Administrative, teacher, or other staff referral

  • Referral by friend(s)
